Help Give Charlie II a Second Chance at Life
Hi, my name is Ramona, and I wasn’t planning on getting a dog that day. I had gone to PetSmart to pick up a goldfish. But the SPCA was holding an adoption event in the store—and dog lovers will understand this—something in my heart pulled me toward the adoption area, no matter how much I told myself not to look.
That’s when I saw him.
An elderly Shih Tzu, matted fur hiding his tiny body, an infected eye half-closed, ribs clearly showing from months of starvation. He was tired, scared, and sitting quietly in his kennel, as if the world had forgotten him. I didn’t ask about the cost, the medical needs, or the history. I simply asked, “Can I take him home?”
When I brought him home, I shaved away the matted hair, revealing a frail, undernourished little soul. His right eye had a hole in it. He was covered in infections. His body told the story of long neglect.
The very next day, we went to the vet. His doctor—one of the kindest people I’ve ever met—immediately started him on nine different medications, checks in with me daily, and sees him every four days.
At first, I just wanted him to have a peaceful place to rest. If it was his time, he would leave this world knowing love and comfort. But then… we saw a glimmer of hope. With enough care, treatment, and love, he might have more time—good time—left.
The truth is, though, vet bills add up quickly. Every medication, procedure, and check-up is necessary, but they’re becoming more than I can handle alone.
To those who might think, “Just let him go,” I want you to know—if he ever tells me it’s time, I will let him go peacefully. But right now, he’s fighting. And as long as he’s fighting, I’m fighting with him.
Your donation will go directly to his medical bills, treatments, and recovery. Even the smallest amount makes a difference. And if you can’t donate, sharing his story helps more than you know.
Thank you for helping give Charlie —a dog who had every reason to give up—a reason to keep going.
