On March 31st, a blood vessel in Art’s back ruptured, and the accumulated blood around his spine compressed his spinal cord. Since then, he has been paralyzed from the waist down and is in a wheelchair. Many of you have asked what you can do for Art following his injury, and now he has a need that you can help with!
We need to reconfigure our bathroom. The doorway is so narrow that we had to remove the door and door stop inside the frame just to make it possible for Art to squeeze through in the wheelchair. To get out, he has to back up, and if he doesn’t hit the angle exactly right, he gets stuck in the hallway. A wider doorway would help him a lot.
The bathroom itself is also quite narrow, and the shower is in the bathtub. Because of the height and narrow width of the tub, we are unable to safely transfer Art onto a shower chair so he can take a shower. We’ve been doing sponge baths ever since Art came home at the beginning of May. A low-profile shower would make it possible for Art to take showers.
With the vanity we have, Art can’t really use the sink either. So, we need to replace the vanity with something he can access.
Here’s your chance to bless Art and make his life (and mine) a whole lot easier. The remodel will cost a little over $16,000.
If you are unable to contribute financially, please pray for Art’s healing and for this project. Thank you!
