Hi all,
As many of you know, our son Xavier has suffered with a complexed heart condition since birth and has had several heart surgeries since then. He is however, on the waiting list for open heart surgery again and this should happen hopefully within the next month.
The cardiac arrest Xavier suffered at 4 months old did however cause a severe brain injury, to which he has exceeded expectations, though subsequently has been diagnosed with cerebral palsy.
His walking has vastly improved with his new splints, however he is still a big falls risk and can’t walk for long periods due to his heart condition, thus needing a wheelchair.
NHS have accepted they cannot provide an adequate wheelchair for Xavier and therefore we have to go private, and these are expensive! After visiting Bromakin (private Loughborough based wheelchair company), we have estimated costs and these aren’t cheap! We cannot afford this ourselves, due to having another baby (due October) and a solo income. So we reluctantly have to ask the public to be kind enough to help us out here.
We want to give Xavier everything he deserves and his independence to be mobile and free is one of the highest on that list. He is due to start school in September and we know he is going to need a wheelchair very soon as a result. We never thought we’d be in this position, but this is our lives now and we just hope you can donate towards this excellent cause and help us to provide what Xavier needs.
It is so expensive for everything required for people with disabilities and we’re raising a little boy who already has the world against him, we just want to make sure he has what he needs. This special boy has overcame 3 cardiac arrests, 2 open heart surgeries (soon to be 3), 3 cardiac catheter procedures and several seizures. He is the beating heart of our family (excuse the pun) and puts a smile on every face he meets with his infectious energy and personality. He is incredible sociable and says hello to absolute everybody, always asking what their name is and telling them his. He is a source of inspiration for many, including us and we know we are so incredibly lucky to have him.
We do hate to have to ask for help, but we are out of options and this simply cannot be overlooked. We’ve considered asking for help with private physiotherapy before, but we refrained from doing so because it just feels uncomfortable and awkward asking for help from people. However I am content with losing some pride in order to hopefully give Xavier what he needs.
After reading this, if you cannot afford to donate, we totally understand, but please if you could share this page to your networks, we hope we can reach others that may be able to contribute towards our goal.
Thank you very much,
Sam, Courtney and most importantly, Xavier, who would be incredibly grateful.
