Hey everybody, my name is James Carlson. I've started this go fund me campaign for my brother Andrew, his wife Caitlin, and new born son Elijah (almost 4 months old now).
Andrew started having neck pain in late November. Thinking it would be fine he didn't get it checked out. It got worse and worse until he finally went to the doctor December 30th. The doctors found a severe infection in his neck that had eaten through a disk and 2 vertebrae. The next day the preformed surgery removing the vertebrae and 3 disks. They replaced them, fusing them together with a cage in front and two rods in the back of his neck. The surgery was a success and he was recovering well, getting stronger and stronger.
Then on February 1st he woke up and his feet were numb, each day numbness crept up his legs to the point where when walking they would suddenly give out causing him to fall. Feb 17th came around and the numbness reached his stomach. He could no longer move his legs. Dad and I packed him to the stairs where Andrew slid down them on his rear end. He was taken to the ER at the Idaho Falls Community Hospital. The doctors started treating him for both a vitamin B1 deficiency and Guillain-Barre, an autoimmune disorder that ate the insulation off of his nerves.
On Feb 24th Andrew was transferred over to East Idaho Regional Medical Center to do in patient physical therapy. Very slowly the feeling is coming back in his legs as he is relearning how to walk. The doctors can't tell us how long or even if he will gain full mobility back.
From a brother watching all of this happen from the sideline, wondering how I can possibly help, I've thought to myself "this stubborn guy needs help providing for his family.". That is why I'm here, asking everybody that I know to provide a little cushion and lift a little financial stress from a good guys shoulders. Any amount donated is well appreciate. If you aren't in a place where you can donate any money prayers are always felt, and a share carries us a little closer to this goal.
