Build A Ripple Effect: Help Smritee Get to Oxford
Donation protected
Hello Everyone,
I am Smritee Subedi from Nepal and I am thrilled to share that I have achieved something beyond my wildest dreams. I got an acceptance letter from the University of Oxford! However I still face a daunting challenge- a funding deficit of £30,371 to cover my course fees and living expenses. I request for your support to turn this offer into an amazing academic journey.
**Since GoFundMe is not supported in my home country, Nepal, I couldn’t create a GoFundMe campaign directly. That’s why my amazing cousin, Sarina Subedi has kindly set up this on my behalf. **
We all have our stories of hopes, dreams and struggles and here’s mine:
I was born and raised in Kathmandu, Nepal—a melting pot of diverse cultures where people from all walks of life come with big dreams and hopes to build a good future. My parents were among those dreamers. They moved to this city with the goal of providing their children with the education they never had.
In 2022, I became the first generation college student in my family, turning my parents’ dream to reality. That education gave me enough courage to have my own ambitions. And today, I hold an offer letter for MSc Water Science, Policy and Management from the University of Oxford along with the St Anne's Elnora Ferguson Scholarship.
I firmly believe that financial background doesn’t define our potential but it does limit the opportunities we get in life. I stand here because of the collective effort of my family and my hard work but to reach to Oxford, I require additional helping hands.
Why MSc. Water Science, Policy and Management?
My choice of study is not based on a whim, but rather an informed decision shaped by my personal experiences. My earliest memories are filled with water—not from abundance, but from scarcity. I vividly recall the daily chaos and disputes among community members over limited water resources. And the situation in the present day has not gotten any better.
For over three years, I have dedicated myself to addressing water issues throughout Nepal—whether by identifying groundwater recharge zones and the potential for rainwater harvesting in Kathmandu or by conducting WASH programs in disaster-affected communities. I have carried out sanitation surveys in the heat of Nepal's lowlands and facilitated water-climate resilience surveys in high altitudes of Everest National Park.
Through these experiences, I have recognized the paradox of abundance we face, where the freshwater sources are increasingly polluted while people struggle to meet the most basic water needs. This realization has driven me to dedicate my life to water management, both in Nepal and globally. Now, more than ever, I am determined to blaze trails for those who continue to come after me.
Why Donate?
With every penny that you invest in me, you will be quenching the thirst of all those people who suffer from acute water shortages as well as encourage thousands of kids to have the courage to pursue their dreams despite the financial background.
If you-or someone you know- believe in the transformative power of education, I invite you to join me on this ambitious journey. Every donation, no matter how big or small, makes a significant difference.
Thank you for your support.
