Let's get Rosie back on her feet (literally!)
Donativo protegido
For those of you who know Rosie, you know she’s an incredible part of any community she’s involved with, an amazing pal, gives her time to forests, to friends, and is funny as hell.
She also recently found her swing on a new casual baseball team. Unfortunately, last Friday (May 28th), while running for 1st base, and in an attempt to avoid hurting someone else, Rosie twisted and snapped her ankle.
After a visit to the ER, Rosie got the devastating news that she requires emergency surgery. As quickly as possible, she racked her resources, seeing if she might be able to fly back to England where this kind of surgery would be covered for her, but the surgeon told her that was absolutely impossible. She needs to have this surgery now, and she will not be able to fly prior to.
Rosie doesn’t have medical insurance in Canada at the moment, because of a huge lap in travellers insurance that started during the pandemic. No insurance means she will have to pay for this surgery out of pocket.
Unfortunately Rosie hasn’t been able to work for the last year because of the pandemic, and can’t work now, or during recovery, in her field as a cook.
At the very very least, the costs that are ahead of Rosie are:
ER Visit: $1500
Ankle Surgery: $4000
Physio and Recovery $2000
For a total of $7500.
That is a fuck load to hold alone. Let’s get this truly inspiring woman back on her feet.
Here are ways you can help:
1. Make a donation. Any amount helps! If we all pitch in what we can afford, we can definitely take this whale off of Rosie's back.
2. If you are going to donate, donate early and hard! Even GOFUNDME runs on algorithms and the more donations that happen in the first 48 hours, the more traction Rosie's page gets to be seen.
3.. Share this campaign! On Facebook, Instagram, twitter. Whatever the kids are doing this days. If you can write a personally note at the top outlining why you would love to see your pals support Rosie in whatever way they can, that is always the best.
4. If you happen to be a physio or recovery specialist, maybe you can offer Rosie some support in that regard.
5. During Rosie’s recovery, she will need a hand with everything from picking up groceries, to cooking, to whatever else we do on our feet. Consider letting Rosie know when and how you might be available to help.
6. Donate again! In the second or third week, to invigorate and remind those who love to procrastinate that time is coming up.
All funds will go towards surgery, and recovery.
Thank you so much for reading through this and thank you so much for your support. It is so hard to ask for help, but here is a direct quote from Rosie:
“Thank you all so much. ❤️ I’m overwhelmed by people’s kindness already. Thank you so much for helping me navigate this time. It’s a real shock to the system. I’m going to cry for the 17th time today. You are wonderful people”
