Let’s get Miles back on his feet!

(KC Chief’s Biggest Fan)

Our son, Miles Zeller sustained a spinal cord injury from a fall following the Chiefs game on Nov 17 in Buffalo, NY. After a long surgery, he’s in stable condition in a hospital there.

The good news is that he did not sustain a head injury, so we’ve got all of what makes Miles “Miles.” If you know this sunny young man, you won’t be surprised he’s already kidding around with his brothers and caregivers.

Miles retains his upper-body mobility. His initial prognosis is paralysis from the chest down, although he’s already surprised his doctors by regaining sensation in both feet, and now they talk of him standing.

Miles has a long and challenging road ahead. The extent of his recovery will depend on his hard work and optimism - his superpowers - and on resources. This is where you can help Miles get back on his feet.

This will be a long and hard journey that requires money. He must be flown back to Kansas City where his family and friends can surround him with love and encouragement. Then, the hard work begins with inpatient care at a spinal cord facility, then on to one or more years of outpatient therapy.

Miles will also need special tools and accommodations to recover his full and productive life. This includes working as a policy analyst for a KC non-profit making loans into financially distressed neighborhoods, studying for a graduate degree (MPA) at UMKC, coaching a youth rowing team on the Kansas River, helping his father create the Rock Island Railroad Bridge, and enjoying the company of his partner, Lily and their kitten, Chef.

You can help by making a contribution now. Let’s get Miles back on his feet!

Thank you,
Liz Zeller, Miles' mom
