Let’s get Lekai the treatment he deserves

Hi everyone so I thought I’d take it upon myself to help fundraise for a special young boy who unfortunately has lost all his hair, eye brows and lashes. He was diagnosed in October with Alopecia Universalis and in the space of a couple of months his hair loss was very noticeable.

It all started when he became unwell with a severe stomach bug last May, which resulted in continuous hospital admissions with him needing IV fluids and oral morphine to help with his pain. After numerous appointments and tests the consultant has confirmed this was the trigger that started Lekais hair loss as it put a huge amount of stress on his immune system.

Lekai has always been a confident and happy boy but recently just wants to stay at home on his game, but has continued to keep up his love for football playing for Sheffield Wednesday U13's. He is missing out on activities kids his age should be doing as he doesn't like to leave the house without his hat/durag because he’s embarrassed, which has knocked his confidence dramatically. Sadly he has had several incidents at school with kids pulling his hat off, which as you can imagine causes upset for Lekai.

Lekai has been playing for Sheffield Wednesday since the age of 7 and has recently signed another 2 year contract which will take him up until he's 15. After playing football most of his life for both Sheffield united development, Derby development & Greenhill grass roots this has now had a huge knock on his confidence. He has devoted everything to his love for football and after all his hard work this is the last thing we want him to give up on.

My best friend Emma, who is Lekai’s mum has spent hours after hours researching different options. After numerous hospital appointments, blood tests, different prescription drugs, herbal supplements, creams and oils that have all been unsuccessful.

Emma who is the best mum to her children has now had to contact a private specialist dermatologist Dr Farrant, with support from an alopecia group who has given Lekai a treatment plan with a very high percentage his hair will grow back.

Unfortunately the down fall to this is that it’s going to cost £517 a month and Lekai will need to be on this new treatment for up to 6 months to see any benefits. This will be available hopefully on the NHS by July but it is down to the individual if they meet the criteria. The sooner we can get him on it the better, as the last 6 months have been heartbreaking for the whole family. As you can imagine again this is so upsetting for a child of 12 years old who just wants his hair to grow back. If you know Lekai then you'll know every 2 weeks he was in the barbers getting his buzz cut and always took such pride in his hair.

To see such a handsome, confident young lad slowly becoming more and more unsociable, uncomfortable & embarrassed of his appearance due to a condition he cannot control is absolutely heartbreaking.

I am kindly asking for a small contribution to help get the treatment Lekai deserves as the last thing Emma wants, is to worry about money when all she needs to be doing is supporting her son through this hard time.

Thank you guys, it will mean the world to Lekai and his family, LETS DO THIS ! ❤️
