Let's get Kira back on her paws!

Donation protected

Hi everyone,

I'm reaching out with a heavy heart to ask for your support. My brother’s beloved dog, Kira, a Labrador, has recently been diagnosed with hip dysplasia in her back legs and elbow arthritis on her front - a painful condition that’s severely affecting her mobility and quality of life. She’s less than a year old, full of energy and love, and still just a puppy with her whole life ahead of her.

Baby Kira (is it weird to call her "my niece"?)

Kira was born on October 15th 2024, and her first surgery on the front left leg was in May this year. She is recovering very well and the vet told us the back legs wouldn't need surgery until she's 3, but a few weeks ago she started to experience a lot of pain after a Sunday playing in the river, and the doctor confirmed to us that the hip dysplasia has evolved faster than expected and that she will need surgery next Thursday, 14th August.

Kira's first scan, 30th April 2024.

She is now experiencing pain and is unable to enjoy her puppy life. The good news is that surgery can give Kira the chance to live a happy, pain-free life. And it's a "good" thing that she is having the operation when she's still under 1 year old, which increases her chances of a speedy recovery. The difficult part is that the cost of the operation and aftercare is more than my brother and I can afford at this moment.

My brother is currently unemployed and doing everything he can to care for her. Watching both of them struggle and not being able to help more has been heartbreaking. He is based in Madrid, and I am living in Edinburgh, though I will travel to Madrid shortly after the surgery and keep you posted on her recovery!

That’s why I am asking for your help. I've never used this website before, but I want to do this on behalf of my brother, who feels very overwhelmed at the moment. Every donation, no matter how small, will go directly toward:

  • The cost of Kira’s surgery
  • Post-op care
  • Medication

Our goal is £1,100 and every bit brings us closer to getting Kira the treatment she urgently needs.

If you can’t donate, please consider sharing this with friends, family, or anyone who loves animals and believes every pet deserves a fighting chance. Kira is a family member, and she deserves to be a happy dog.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your kindness and support.

With gratitude,

Cynthia (And Alex & Kira)
