Let's Get John to Spain!!

I am reaching out to friends, family and the wider Riverland community to help support John Callery & his family to enable John to pursue his soccer dreams. John’s parents, Mick and Tash Callery are salt of the earth people, forever helping anyone that needs assistance, and now it’s their turn to be helped.

Financial support is needed, so their son can make the most of an amazing opportunity to travel to Spain.

John, who will be 17 in January, lives in the Riverland South Australia and plays for Renmark Olympic soccer club. John was awarded the Riverland’s best and fairest for under 16’s, the Coaches award for Renmark Olympic under 16’s and also Senior Men’s coaches award in 2023 and then again this year was named Renmark Olympic’s best and fairest player for under 16’s. He recently went to Adelaide for a soccer try out for Elite football. Unfortunately, not offered a sponsorship deal, however was offered the opportunity to go to Spain for 3 months and train with the club in a development program.

Not only does this give John a unique opportunity, it will help to improve his skills and hopefully open the doors to bigger and better things.

Expected date of departure to Spain is late January or early February and John will be living and breathing football at Celta De Vigo. He is so passionate and eager to expand and enhance his ability and this will be an unbelievable experience for him. This is a 3 month development program aimed at high performance skills at La Liga professional level. Training is daily and once a week will attend friendly matches. If he performs well, he would be asked to do extra training which will give more opportunities, getting to train with top teams which will be division 1 under 19's team to which would lead to scouting opportunities at the tender age of 17 years old.

The cost of this trip is $3000 Euros per month plus flights, expenses, meals and private health insurance and this has all taken place in the last few weeks. Total approximate cost will be around $20,000 AUD. We know and fully understand the cost of living is affecting us all, especially this time of year but unfortunately due to time constraints and only just getting the final confirmation phone call last week, the opportunity to chase up sponsorship locally is very difficult.

Any amount that can be donated will be so appreciated and help Mick and Tash get their son one step closer to his dream. Please know that every cent will be contributing to essential costs to assist John with the programme. If you are unable to assist with a donation, which again, is so understandable, if you could please share to anyone you think may be able to help. Mick and Tash have struggled to agree to this fundraiser, as they are normally the ones giving anything they can, however, to see their son being able to live his dream is worth it. Thank you all!
