Let's get Ivys VW Bug running again

When we asked Ivy’s Mom (Cheryl) who is Ivy? Cheryl shared that Ivy is a very intelligent and quiet teenager who loves anime, video games, and her 1973 VW Beetle Sedan! Ivy’s Mom also shared that because Ivy with autism spectrum disorder and Asperger syndrome, Ivy has always found it very difficult to open up and socialize with people. But when Ivy joined Vochos La Raza, a Sacramento Volkswagen Car Club whose mission is to create a safe and fun family-oriented space through local gatherings, events, competitions, and cruising trips that they call “Rollings”, Ivy’s Mom and Dad (Lee) said something that sparked in Ivy and she began to thrive. They couldn’t explain it but were so happy to see her come out of her shell. We asked Ivy if she could do one thing what would it be, and she quickly responded to fix her VW. On the way to a Vocho’s rolling event (Family Breakfast in Sacramento) several months ago, Herbie broke down and has been at a lonely and sad “stand still” ever since. Lee has shared that since “Herbie” has been motionless, Ivy also seems to be at a standstill and is again isolating herself and has become depressed. Her parents were so surprised that Ivy came out of her room to speak with us today!! Ivy told us she can’t wait to get her car fixed. She has fond memories of driving Herbie with her Dad during Woodland’s Light Parade and seeing all the kids smile at Herbie as they drove by. Ivy says she misses bringing joy to the kids. Ivy’s Dad can’t wait to get Ivy’s pride and joy fixed so that he and Ivy can start doing “stuff” together again that engages and brings joy to Ivy. Ivy turns 18 on January 8th and Lee wants nothing more than to give “Herbie” back to Ivy in a running and safe condition so he can finally teach her how to drive. Unfortunately, Lee and Cheryl can’t cover the cost on their own. Vochos La Raza club members are ready to help and are asking for your help. All money collected will go to fixing Ivy’s VW. No donation is too small. Please consider opening your hearts and help us fulfill Ivy’s dream to have her “Herbie" ready for her birthday. You can follow our story at Vocho’s La Raza home page on face book. Thank you!
