Hi friends! I’m reaching out to ask for support for my amazing friend, Emma. Emma is a lifelong educator and teacher here in the Los Angeles area. Last weekend, thieves sawed through a heavy-duty lock at her apartment and stole her Super73. They may have seen it as a fun ride, but the bike was Emma's daily commuter vehicle. She used it to commute to work and run errands, relying on it to make life on a teacher's income sustainable by eliminating the stress of gas prices and car expenses.
As a teacher, Emma gives so much to our community, and now we have a chance to give back to her. Our goal is to cover the cost of a replacement so she can return to her daily routine without the added burden of LA's skyrocketing transit costs. Let's help Emma get back on the road! <3
"Last weekend, while I was home visiting my parents, my Super73 e-bike was stolen from behind my apartment. It had been secured with a heavy-duty lock, but whoever took it sawed directly into the frame to get it. I came home to find only pieces left behind.
This bike meant so much more to me than transportation. Ever since my time in China, I fell in love with biking as a way to move through the world. In Los Angeles—where everything revolves around cars—this bike gave me a rare sense of freedom. It became my way to get to work, avoid traffic, save on gas, run errands, explore the city, and decompress after long days. It was joy. It was stress relief. It made this enormous city feel smaller and more livable.
I saved for over a year to afford it. I remember how proud and excited I felt when I finally had enough to buy it. Riding it became part of my identity here. It even inspired some of my students to get e-bikes of their own so they could experience that same independence and happiness.
Losing it so suddenly has been heartbreaking. I’m incredibly grateful for the community around me and for Charity who suggested creating this fundraiser. Any support—whether financial or simply sharing this—means more than I can put into words. Thank you for being part of helping me reclaim a small but powerful piece of freedom."
