Lets get Detective Aponte's son a new wheelchair!
This is Isaiah, Zay to those who know him, and he was born without any health issues to Gabe and Angie Aponte. At about 7 months old, he woke up one morning in 2011 barely able to move and his parents didn’t know why. He was rushed to the Emergency Room and quickly airlifted to Oakland Children’s Hospital and was listed in critical condition. The doctors couldn’t figure out what was going on with Zay and told his parents that his brain and upper spinal cord were swollen and gave them a 50/50 survival rate for their child. After all the scans and tests, and over a month in the hospital, they were unable to find out what was going on, but through medicine they reduced the swelling. The toll on his body from the swelling, left Isaiah without the ability to use his legs and core muscles. However, the scans on Zay’s brain found a secondary problem and he was diagnosed with Chiari Malformation and required brain surgery, which he underwent at only 2 years old.
Zay’s illness might have taken his legs, but it didn’t take his smile and bright spirit. Zay is now 10 years old and requires the use of a wheelchair for mobility. He’s grown like a weed and is now too big for his wheelchair. His parents’ health insurance will not cover a new wheelchair because his last one was purchased three years ago and the insurance will only cover one every five years. Wheelchairs are very expensive and the one he needs will be $4,000 out of pocket. Gabe is a police officer for Murrieta PD and a former United States Marine that served our country in Iraq. He and his wife Angie have SIX kids and could use a little help to get this new wheelchair for their son.
On behalf of his partners at the Murrieta Police Department, lets show the Aponte Family some love and bless Zay with a brand new wheelchair!
The additional funds requested will help cover the GoFundMe fees and/or taxes from each transaction. The Aponte family will also be looking to donate Zays current wheelchair to a family in need.
