Our teammate and dear friend, David McBroom, suffered severe trauma to his face during our Tuesday Night Men's Soccer League Match. Following an accident, David was left with a concussion and a broken jaw. He was in the Emergency Room for several days until he finally had reconstructive surgery that included installing permanent metal plates and screws in his face.
The good news is that he did not sustain any permanent head injuries, so we've got all that makes David "David." And if you know this lively and caring young man, you won't be surprised that he's already dreaming about the day he can join us back on the pitch, and he's already planning his next triathlon.
However, before he can get there, he will have to undergo a 6-month recovery process, which includes being fed from a straw for the next 2 weeks, followed by intense monitoring and a very slow reintroduction to soft and hard foods. It will take 12 weeks before he can consider working out lightly again.
In addition to the physical and emotional damage that David is continuously battling, he is facing steep medical bills that threaten to put him in serious financial insecurity. Considering a 3-night stay in the ER, 1 ambulance ride to transfer hospitals, 1 surgery, many painkillers and IVs, CAT scans, X-rays, post-op meds, operating costs, etc., David is being forced to cover thousands of dollars of medical expenses out-of-pocket.
This is where you can help us.
It's terrifying how life can change so much in an instant and how much the effects of a single moment can ripple. We can only imagine how painful, physically and emotionally, this whole process has been for him.
We don't believe David should be forced to pay for this on his own. With your help, we can make sure he doesn't have to turn his whole world upside down to make ends meet while recovering from such a traumatic incident.
You can help by making a contribution Now. Let's get David back on his feet, out on the pitch, and back in the race!
Thank you,
