DAVID P. STEPHENS
“Let’s Get David Back to Making ART!”
We are “ten645”, a Cape Breton Island Contemporary Artist Collective. We are asking that you consider donating to help our fellow collective member, David P. Stephens meet his everyday living expenses and financial concerns following his recent diagnosis of Colon Cancer.
David is a prolific artist, living and working in Cape Breton Island whose art sales have been his major source of income, be it through commissions or his colour- ful and cheery “potboilers” - his bread and butter art. Currently, David’s only form of income is his fixed pension amount. His cancer diagnosis has put his artistic production on hold as he has been experiencing lethargy and an overall lack of energy, and as such it has been difficult for him to create new art and to cope financially. David will undergo Colon Cancer surgery in May to remove a tumour and he has an unknown future ahead, though it is anticipated he will make a healthy and swift recovery. Your kind donation will help David with his immediate financial concerns by relieving some of the burden associated with a cancer diagnosis and all that entails, and will help ease his stress until such time he has recovered and is able to return to his creative endeavour.
David is recognized as an established professional artist, having contributed to the cultural fabric of Nova Scotia, Atlantic Canada, and to our country with select works in the Permanent Collections of the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, The Beaverbrook Art Gallery in Fredericton, as well as the Canadian Museum of History. David is also a father to his daughter Bella, a friend to many, and he has volunteered along with several local artists in the Art of Living Program at the Cape Breton Cancer Centre, giving back to his community through the use of his talent and kind ways.
To all who have helped David to date, and those who decide to donate, we truly appreciate your generous contribution to help our fellow artist as it will aid in David returning to being a productive artist. If you are unable to donate, that most certainly is understandable, please send out positive thoughts and wishes to David for a speedy and healthy recovery. Please share this post far and wide!
