Let's Get Chickens!
Donation protected
For well over a year now, we have been building one of Bousfield's most unique resources - an urban forest school where children can relax, explore and learn.
We feel that it is time to take things to the next level, and introduce our very own Chicken Coop!
How can chickens help your child?
Caring for chickens is a wonderful experience, perfectly suited to children, and the work involved with keeping them can be linked in with a wide-range of curriculum units. Additionally, it reconnects pupils with where their food comes from, allowing them to make informed food choices of their own.
How will your donations be spent?
We plan to raise enough money to purchase four chickens, a 'Eglu Cube' coop with large run, some serious fox-proofing(!) plus make a some adjustments to the Forest School fencing to allow our birds to roam the area when the 'Coop Troop' are around. We must also consider food, treats, grit and bedding, which despite being relatively cheap, can soon add up over the course of a year.
How will your child be involved?
Children will be able to join our 'Coop Troop' chicken club for a once-a-week experience, feeding, watering, caring for, and learning about our newest additions to the Forest School. They will be rewarded with a true sense of responsibility, a hands-on adventure, and of course... lots of lovely eggs!
