Let's get 31 indigenous students a better future

The 31 indigenous guatemalan students are only two months away from finishing the school year.

These students would not afford to go to school if there wasn't the K'amolb'e Maya School, the only community school that can provide secondary education in the region, and it is run by volunteers. Some of the students walk for 2, 3 or even 5 hours in muddy trails, by boat or by asking truck rides from their Q'eqchi' villages to get to school. Each student would need to collaborate US$ 80.00 until the school year end to continue recieving an education. However, none of the students would afford to pay such ammount.

THIS IS WHAT WE ARE GOING TO DO!

1. We are going to provide the $ 80.00 that each student would need to finish the school year.

2. Make sure that every student will finish succesfully the year.

3. Provide computer classes to encourage them and continue their education next year.

WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT?

1. Most indigenous families in Guatemala make very little money working in the farm, as low as US$ 4.00 per day.

2. Most children work in farming to support their family's economy.

3. These students are attending school because they want a better future, they just need a little help.

Fredy Oxom, a member of Chaptops' Board of Directors is one of the founders of the K'amolb'e Maya School. He experienced the difficulties in getting education in his Q'eqchi' village, but he managed to graduate in college in the United States. Now, he is back in Guatemala to give back to his community, he believes that through education, we can make a difference.
