Let’s fix Zeus....

Due to the crazy set of circumstances that has led us to this predicament I was encouraged by several friends to start up a page to help cover the costs of a life-saving operation for our dog Zeus.

This is Zeus the day we rescued him from Palm Valley Animal Center....
From day one he was an amazing dog that enjoys birthdays....

....and Christmas.....(maybe a little too much)
He is a wonderful dog, and has truly become one of the family....
On Monday 1/14/19 Zeus was stolen out of our yard early in the morning.  I believe someone from the construction site behind our house was responsible for this as there were muddy footprints on a concrete pillar leading into my yard and a muddy footprint on the fence where they use the cross beam to step back out of the yard. I called the police and after walking the yard inch by inch and inspecting the fence plank by plank the officer and I were in agreement someone entered the yard from the construction site to steal Zeus. Our neighborhood is amazing at calling out lost animals on Facebook and Nextdoor.  Most animals that go missing in our neighborhood are found within a few hours because of how diligent everyone is whenever someone posts a missing animal. The first thing I did after filing the police reports was to shout out on every pet board in the RGV and our NextDoor app but Zeus was a ghost for 36 hours. No one saw him anywhere. In an effort to scare anyone at the construction site who might have taken Zeus into returning him I went to talk to the foreman at which point I pointed to security cameras on 2 homes next to the site telling him to talk to his guys and if I see any of them on video in my yard they will be leaving work in handcuffs with charges pressed if my dog didn’t show up today.  After this meeting with the foreman, within 4 hours Zeus mysteriously just showed up loose in the neighborhood. At that point I got several shout outs on Facebook saying they see our dog on Jackson and Trenton. My wife and 3 kids all piled into the car to go pick him up. We found him panicked in the middle of a bean field during rush hour so scared he didn’t recognize us. I got out and called to him and he was so panicked he darted into traffic and was struck by a car while all me and my family could do was watch in horror. We were so close to getting him back after almost accepting we would never see him again just to have him taken from us in the worst possible way??   He suffered internal injuries and a shattered pelvis. The veterinarian gave us 2 options. Either we put him to sleep or go to San Antonio as they are the closest place with hospitals and doctors equipped to perform this surgery. Today we were given a low-end high end estimate of $5412-$7527 for Zeus’s surgery and hospitalization on top of the $500 we spent initially at the Pet Hospital in McAllen.  For me there really was no choice to be made. Zeus is like one of my kids, but the unplanned expense of this horrrendous act and subsequent tragedy has really stretched us financially.  I would appreciate any help anyone could spare to help get Zeus back in his feet.  I feel weird asking for this kind of help, but through the encouragement of several friends I figured it would be worthwhile to give people the opportunity to help. I’ll attach receipts and the estimate so everyone understands this is not a cash grab. Anything raised beyond the cost of care for Zeus will be in turn donated to Palm Valley Animal Center in Edinburg, Texas.

And one more interesting tidbit about Zeus....he is convinced our Dachshund Tootsie is his mom since she was there to raise him up as a puppy.
