Let’s Eliminate Hunger Together in Lagos, Nigeria
Donation protected
My name is Modupe Asekun, an indigen of Lagos, Nigeria. I was privileged to visit Nigeria this past March and on March 24th, while in transit to Lagos, I received a message from someone on one of the community platforms I am a part of, stating that there was an old man lying on the road in our community. Based on what the informant observed, the old man appeared to be extremely weak and in need of medical attention. I was informed that he was not even able to drink any water due to his weakness. Shortly afterwards, another message came through pronouncing that the old man had died. What was the cause? STARVATION. I suddenly went into a deep sadness. Yes, austerity was rampant in Nigeria, but people were still surviving and some, thriving. But here was the representation of a common Nigerian, a representative of the masses who had passed away from starvation. He was unable to access the basic nutrition required to keep him alive. I was immediately compelled to do something and shared what was laid on my heart with my husband...FEED 1,000 PEOPLE EVERYDAY.
As soon as we arrived Lagos, we started feeding people. We have been consistent in feeding 100 people every Saturday for the last 8 to 10 weeks and we have seen some changes in the men, women, and children. We share a word of love with them for 15 minutes and just feed them. We have only been able to feed 100 people every week but we need to grow as the vision appeared and we believe that together, we can reach that goal of 1,000 people a day for the next 1 year to eradicate hunger as much as we can in Lagos.
No one should die of starvation in these times. We are all capable of lending a helping hand to one another, so I would like to plead with you to join us on this journey of helping the less fortunate by feeding them everyday. We have started with 100 plates a week and we are expecting this will grow over time with your love and support. Together we can achieve this goal! Thank you
