Beats of War Comic Book Series

Donation protected
Hey guys, my name is Etienne Kubwabo, I am film maker and writer. I recently created Scotland's first ever black superhero comic book "Beats of war".  I created this comic mainly because I have lost people growing up, and I wanted to keep them  alive in this fictional story and re-imagine what I would have said to them if they were here.

Growing up, I always loved superhero animations such as batman, Spiderman, superman and more.  But I realised that there are few characters that looked like me. So, I decided to create Beats of war, to inspire and empower other young people like me. I wanted them to have a role model to look up to. It was also a way to highlight some of the challenges that I and other people face when they first move to Scotland.

Comic books and superhero stories in general are an escape for me, and I was overwhelmed, when I released Beats of war. It made it so many news headlines and it made me realise how I could use this vehicle to help the community.

I started running workshops via zoom, teaching kids how to create their own superheroes. It was inspiring them to be creative and to see that they could with just a little help achieve anything they put their mind to.

I would love to keep running these monthly workshops. I realise that many kids have become alienated during the pandemic and these workshops bring hope and light to many children. I am always learning and I have been so impressed how these kids have amazing ideas, and how they are excited to be part of these workshops.

The funds will be used to create the next issue of Beats of war.  It will pay for the production and general art of the comic book, and will help provide more content for our workshops.

The support will mean the world to me, because you will be helping me create these comic books which will continuously help with the facilitation of these workshops.

It's been a tough few months for all of us. This project brings people hope and relief during these challenging times. It helps to inspire kids and even adults to see that they can create a better future for all of us.

Everyone who supports will also get a free copy of the comic book and also have access to the workshops, when they start.
