About Pratik

Pratik is a 8 year old boy in 2nd grade who attends Shree Bhadra Kumari National Basic School in Bharatpur-5, Chitwan, Nepal. Last year, I raised $2600 dollars in gofundme to help with Pratik's education expenses.

Upon successful completion of the gofundme campaign, we enrolled Pratik in a good school near his home and in a residential hostel (Schoolrise hostel). Pratik goes to the school 9-4 and is in the hostel rest of the time.

The hostel environment is necessary because Pratik’s father is disabled and his mother is almost fully occupied taking care of him.

Before this year, he was languishing both academically and socially among his peers. He was shy and diffident and terribly poor at school. We’ve seen remarkable progress in a year already. Pratik is now doing significantly better at school. In addition to this, he has friends he can play with in the hostel and therefore has a happy social life as well.

As we can see, Pratik's GPA improved from 2.4 to 3.05. I think this is a significant improvement. This is a result of better instruction at school, significant after-school coaching and teaching at the hostel and a better environment overall to thrive and succeed.

Schoolrise hostel

Pratik is enrolled in The Schoolrise hostel located close to Pratik’s home at Bharatpur-5, Chitwan. About 20 kids live there, with the capacity for a few more. The hostel is run by Mr Thakur Dhakal, who has been an educator for the past 20 years in Bhaktapur and Chitwan. The hostel building is also Mr. Dhakal’s home, and he lives there with his family and runs the hostel smoothly with support from his wife.

The kids there go to nearby schools of their parents' choice but live in the hostel, where there’s a beautiful environment for education and after-school activities. The hostel also arranges transportation to and from their schools. Some kids are day borders, where they are picked up by their parents in the evening and taken home, whereas some are full-time boarders and live in the hostel.

Pratik enjoys his time there and it is also easy for him to visit his family on the weekend as they live about 30 minutes away (walking distance).
