Let's Build My School - High school in Senegal
Donation protected
Hi! We’re raising funds to help build a high school in Thiafoura, a remote village in Senegal, for Let’s Build My School (LBMS), a charity that constructs schools in underserved communities using innovative, sustainable techniques tailored to local climates.
LBMS uses a unique construction method originally designed for building shelters on the moon, using local soil to create naturally cool, eco-friendly classrooms.
For this high school, LBMS will construct four classrooms, a director’s office, and WCs. We’re fundraising to support vital additions:
- Building a fence around the school
- Planting trees on the school grounds
- Building a playground where children can play and thrive.
We are aiming to fundraise past our target, to fund the construction of the library!
Why this school matters
Senegal ranks 164th out of 189 on the UN Human Development Index, with only 50% of school-age children having access to education. Many classrooms are overcrowded with up to 80 students. LBMS focuses on building schools in underserved areas, giving children a chance for a brighter future and contributing to the country’s economic growth.
Previous LBMS Projects:
- Sambou Toura High School (2023) – 400 students enrolled
- Tivaouane Peulh Elementary School (2020) – 280 students enrolled
- Keur Racine Kindergarten (2017) – 62 children enrolled
Lets Build My School - “Our commitment extends beyond building structures; we strive for measurable and enduring outcomes. Ensure our buildings serve their purpose, increase student enrolment, and create employment opportunities through new earth-building skills is at the core of our mission.”
To end on a quote Leila has shared, Nelson Mandela says “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world”.
Thank you for supporting this project!
