Hello, friends!
My name is Jen Kranz, I am the owner of Volition Skate Co. - a roller skate shop located on the square in Fairfield, IA.
My dream since we started the roller skate shop has been to bring a roller rink back to Fairfield. I'm seeking funding and community support to help make this happen.
The Rink Space
The dream is to build a big beautiful full-size rink, complete with a childcare center, ice cream shop, bar & concessions area, and more. The dream rink will require serious funding and time.
While we work towards making our dream rink a reality, we have been hosting pop-up roller rinks at various locations in the community. Our pop-up rinks at the Fieldhouse and Ciderhouse have been a huge success, and it has been amazing to see the community come together to enjoy roller skating. The pop-up roller rinks were made possible thanks to the generous donations we received when we first started this fundraiser. The funds we raised went towards purchasing about 100 new rental skates, which have been essential to making our pop-up rinks a reality.
The Cost to Build
As we continue to work towards our dream of building a permanent roller rink for our community, we recognize that this will be a significant undertaking that will require substantial funding. The cost to build a rink will vary depending on whether we can find a suitable already-built building or need to construct a new one. We expect that the cost of the project will be at least a few hundred thousand dollars.
To help fund the construction of the rink, we are working on applying for grants from various organizations.
Right now the focus is on improving the pop-up roller skating events. To achieve this, we are raising funds to purchase the following items:
- A high-quality speaker system: Good sound quality is essential to create a party atmosphere at our pop-up rinks. We are looking to purchase a powerful speaker system that can provide clear sound even in large open spaces. Approximate cost for speaker system and equipment to make it easily mobile: $6000
- A lighting system: Lighting can make all the difference in creating the perfect atmosphere for skating. We are seeking to invest in a lighting system that can be easily transported and set up at our pop-up rinks. Approximate cost: $2500
- A mobile shelving unit: Currently, we are struggling to move the rental skates around, and this makes it difficult to set up quickly and efficiently. We need a mobile shelving unit to store and transport the skates easily. Approximate cost: $1700
What the Rink Will Bring to Fairfield:
Currently, there are very few indoor winter-friendly activities in the area, leaving limited options for group socializing and recreational activities. Our goal is to provide a fun and healthy outlet for people of all ages to enjoy while bringing joy and laughter to everyone who participates.
Our roller rink will offer a variety of activities, including special family hours, skating classes for all ages, regular adult-only skate nights, and awesome adult-only skate events like holiday parties and roller discos. It will also provide a place for birthday parties and other family-friendly events to take place.
Additionally, the roller rink will increase tourism in our community. Currently, the roller skate shop alone attracts people from surrounding states, some of whom have driven six hours just to shop there. This will help boost our local economy by generating revenue for nearby businesses like restaurants, shops, and hotels.
To make this dream a reality, we need your help. Your donation will help cover the costs of acquiring a space, purchasing roller skates and equipment, hiring staff, obtaining necessary permits, and marketing the rink to the community.
By supporting our cause, you'll not only help bring a much-needed indoor recreational activity to our community, but you'll also provide jobs and job training for several young community members. It's a win-win for everyone involved.
Why a Roller Rink?
Roller rinks provide so much more than just a place to skate - they provide a healthy activity that gets people moving, a sense of community and connection with each other, and an outlet for stress and anxiety.
Studies have shown that roller skating is a great form of exercise that can help improve cardiovascular health, balance, and coordination. And beyond the physical benefits, roller skating is just plain fun! It's a great way to socialize and connect with others in a safe and healthy environment.
I believe that bringing a roller rink back to our town will have a positive impact on the community as a whole. It will provide a safe and fun place for families and people of all ages to gather and connect, while also promoting healthy activity and exercise.
But I can't do this alone. I need your help to make this dream a reality. Any donation, no matter how small, will make a difference. With your support, we can bring back the joy, connection, and healthy activity that a roller rink provides.
