Let's bring the power of technology to Burundi!

About this initiative:

Help us empower women in Burundi to build a better future! Code Your Dreams has launched the Women Building Change scholarship, providing 5-month intensive data science training to Burundian women, in addition to a series of Web Development programs. With mentorship from industry experts and career-focused training, our students are prepared for success after the program.

Due to overwhelming demand, we need your support to continue our mission. Our goal is to raise $10,000 to amplify our tech education initiatives, drive student and teacher recruitment, and foster strong partnerships with university and government leaders.

Our Executive Director and Lead Instructor for Women Building Change (Burundi) will be in Burundi this May and June. Your generous contributions will directly fund internet access, educational materials, and local outreach events aimed at raising awareness and recruiting students and teachers. By forging connections with universities and government municipalities, we'll ignite a tech education movement in Burundi, opening doors and transforming lives through the power of technology.

Why is this important?

Make a difference in the lives of those in need! The people of Burundi, in East Africa, face extreme poverty with the lowest GDP per capita in the world. The majority of the population, over 90%, work in the unsustainable agricultural industry, leading to poverty and hunger for 72% of the people.

This is why it's crucial to provide upskilling and job opportunities for the working adults and to give children in the country, who make up nearly half of the population, a chance for a better future. Unfortunately, only half of the children in Burundi complete primary school and there is a dire need for more teachers, training programs, and educational resources to meet the demands of the modern job market. Join us in empowering underrepresented communities through technology education! Code Your Dreams is a Chicago-based nonprofit that provides access to high-quality technology education in the United States and East Africa. Our mission is to create a more diverse and equitable tech industry by teaching in-demand technology skills and fostering community action and innovation.

With a proven track record of success, we have impacted over 4,600 individuals of all ages through our project-based technology programs. Partnering with various institutions including schools, community centers, park districts, and legal centers, we offer after-school and after-work programs that cater to the needs of our students.

Our in-house curricula cover a wide range of technology fields including application development, web development, data science and analytics, game development, and creative coding. At the heart of all our programs is the emphasis on community action and innovation. Our students work on technology-based projects that have a positive impact on their communities, bringing the power of technology to those who need it most.
