Hi, my name is Anja. I’m an artist and singer, and I’ve lived in Northampton for most of my life. Since I was a kid, I’ve had a strong creative drive — and a big part of that came from growing up surrounded by music, dance, and community.

After the pandemic, I started to notice how much of Northampton’s downtown nightlife had faded. Venues closed, familiar events disappeared, and a town that once felt full of energy and culture began to feel quieter. I wanted to do something about it.

This is where the idea for a community space began. I’ve always imagined opening a place centered around music, dance, and connection — something open, inclusive, and alive. Now I’m finally in a position to take the first steps toward making that vision real, and I’m asking for your help to get it off the ground.

Northampton has always been home for me. I went to school here, built community here, and spent my childhood going to events like Dance Spree with my mom — a weekly ecstatic dance that shaped a lot of who I am. I was raised by the queer dance community, and I grew up in a world where movement and music were essential parts of life.

Even though I’m only 24, I’ve heard countless stories from people about the days when downtown was full of music — places like The Basement, Pearl Street, Divas, Iron Horse, and Bishop’s. Some of those spaces are gone, others are dormant, but the need for connection through art and gathering has never left.

This project is about building a new space for the community — one that reflects the creativity and energy this town has always had. A place for people to come together through music, movement, and shared experiences.
