We are saddened by a tragic event that affected one of our Meriter family members.
While recovering from shoulder surgery, on May 29, 2021 Sonja Booker’s life changed when she suffered an embolic stroke and underwent a lifesaving embolectomy. Her stroke severely affected all functions of her left side.
Sonja has spent her life caring for others. As a single mother of three, she worked in several different roles in healthcare to provide for her family and took college courses to achieve her BSN. She was working as a direct patient care registered nurse prior to her shoulder surgery and will return to her patients when her recovery is complete.
Sonja always put others needs before her own. Her sister Michelle lived with her and the children, so that Sonja could care for her as she battled breast cancer. Sadly, Michelle did not win her battle. Sonja is a pillar to her family.
As weeks have passed, Sonja’s recovery is progressing and she has transitioned to a rehab facility to continue her journey. Her spirit and determination is evident in her approach to rehabilitation, as she spends hours a day working towards gaining strength and mobility. She is resolute in returning home, but her house needs accommodations for a wheelchair and other safety measures.
We need to bring Sonja home!! Anyone who knows her knows she does not ask for help willingly or easily, so we are asking for her. We are doing what she would do.
Please donate to Sonja's Recovery Fund to help her with expenses so she can focus on her recovery journey.
