If you are looking to make a difference in someone's life, here is your chance! I'm Lindsay and my best friend Amy called me a few nights ago with horrible news about her husband, Brad.
**I mentioned she can't work. She is a flight attendant. He works weekdays and she stays home and does part time homeschool with their 2 kids (5th & 8th grade). She flies and works weekends when he is home.**
A text from Brad's brother, Chad on Friday September 29, 2023:
"Brad is currently in stable condition. Upon arrival his heart was in failure due to a virus that attacked his heart. While the heart was in failure his body was deprived of oxygen and blood. This includes his brain and other organs. The medical staff spent the first day just stabilizing Brad and keeping him alive. Brad was coding over and over (his heart stopped beating) for very long periods of time. We probably lost him over 15 times. Upon getting him stable, his heart was beating but very weak. The rest of his body was still only getting a portion of the blood and oxygen that it needed due to his heart struggling to pump hard enough. With his organs being depleted of these things, his liver and kidneys are working but struggling to do their job. He has been on dialysis to assist with cleaning his blood and assist the liver and kidneys in this process. They installed a temporary pump to his heart to increase the pumping of the heart to push more blood to the struggling organs. This will help them heal. The pump will also allow the staff to decrease some of the medicines being used to help with heart function and allow the heart to start doing its work again. Brad is completely sedated and the staff's desire is to pull him out of that. Before this can happen, they performed a tracheotomy so that they could remove the breathing tube. This will allow him to be more comfortable when he wakes up and reduces the chances of pneumonia. Doctors have seen the body struggle through some of the procedures. They believe these are signs of brain activity. They also see that his pupils are not fixed and have activity. They believe he is in there somewhere. These are all good signs pointing in the right direction. We are still deep in the woods but now know the way out and are heading in that direction."
Saturday, September 30 from his wife, Amy
"He looks good. The nurse hasn't started bringing him off of the sedation part yet. She said she'll do it soon."
Saturday, September 30 from his Brother, Chad
"Brad is at day 3 in this fight. Yesterday they began reducing the drip medications to regulate his heart due to improvement of the heart beat. They also decided to bring him off sedation slowly so that they could observe brain activity. It's 12:30 on Saturday and Brad is awake. He is moving his hands and feet. He is turning his head and tracking with his eyes. He is also moving his lips and trying to talk. We cannot interpret what he is trying to say but he is actively trying to speak. He is raising his arms and moving them as well. When talking to him he locks eyes with me and is definitely hearing our voice and listening. This is a huge step forward and very encouraging. They had said once they got him awake and saw brain function that they would re-sedate him. This plan has changed. They are going to leave him awake as long as he can stand it. All positive news moving forward."
Sunday, October 1 from Amy
"He recognizes us. They are having him more sedated. When he gets upset and coughs his heart goes into an arrhythmia."
Monday, October 2 from Amy
"All right guys, we have another update. We have good news. All the doctors are smiling and they're saying that he's making progress. He will be having surgery in 2 hours to remove the impala(heart pump) and ECMO (lung bypass machine). Pray that the surgery goes well. Pray there are no blood clots which could lead to stroke."
He is very sick in the hospital and will take time to recover. They lost him about 15 times, but he has come back! He is going to fully recover in Jesus name!
I want to help raise money to meet their needs while they go through this difficult situation. They have 2 children and bills to pay. Me and a bunch of loving strangers (you) can be the hands and feet of Jesus by blessing them financially.
