Hello everyone!

My name's Paulo, and I am here to ask you for your help!

I am from Brazil, but I currently live in Canada. I am a friend of Aline, Catarina's mom.

Catarina is a lovely 7 years old girl. She's happy, very smart, great singer and super brave!

Before she was born, Catarina lost her dad for cancer.

Catarina was diagnosed with lymphoma at the age of 4 in 2021, underwent chemotherapy, and finished her treatment in August 2023.

In January of this year, after consultations and routine tests, she discovered that the chemo treatment had caused myelodysplasia, which is a dysfunction of the bone marrow that can't be cured without a bone marrow transplant. The donor was found in Germany and when they were setting the date for the transplant, the tests showed that myelodysplasia had evolved into acute myeloid leukemia... She had to undergo heavy chemotherapy to be able to have the transplant.

This led to various complications... Such as intestinal bleeding, the need for many transfusions, as well as leaving Catarina too weak to undergo the transplant, which was her only chance of a cure.

The transplant took place on August 7th and in addition to the pre-transplant complications, others appeared, such as VOD, BURNS, ALL OVER THE SKIN, PLEURAL LEAKAGE, PERICARDIAL LEAKAGE, AND NEED FOR DIALYSIS...

Today, Catarina has been intubated and on dialysis for nine days and has no timescale for getting out of the situation...

The family has health insurance, but several exams, tests and treatments are not covered by the plan. That's why they've started a fundraising campaign to cover the costs of her treatment so far, and also after she leaves hospital.
