Sit still. Very still. Now hold that position...for the rest of your life.
My name is Jon Chu and I am a Physical Therapist and Assistive Technology Specialist. My job is to help children gain independence through tools that help them communicate and compensate for their physical and mental disabilities. It is an extremely rewarding job as I support teachers, parents, and other dedicated healthcare professionals in their efforts to help these very special people reach their potential.
I am raising funds to finance the development of several devices and software products which would allow people who do not have the use of their hands to use iPads and computers. Many of my students are unable to walk, write, or speak. They have no way of sharing what is in their minds. Traditional communication devices and alternative inputs are simply not effective. That is where you come in.
Right now I am in talks with a local electronics manufacturer, an app developer, and PhD scientists to create these products which have the potential for opening up a whole new world of hope and possibility for our kids. My goal is to begin this project in the summer and have the first working prototypes within 6 months.
As a father of three young children, I am blessed to get hugs and kisses every day, along with plenty of I Love Yous. It crushes me to think that many very loving parents have never had the privilege of having their child hug them back, or heard them say those three precious words that communicate so much.
Help Me, Help Them.
Me, my students, and many grateful parents thank you!
