Hey everyone. My name is Sergio, although some of you might know me as Jack. We really didn't want to resort to a fundraiser like this, but our current situation turned a bit complicated in the past few months.
In late 2023, Mom was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer. We were lucky to be covered by ISSSTE for most of her treatment. Over the following months, she suffered from several, unrelated, health issues that kept delaying her surgery, and by the time she was able to get it in May 2024, the tumor was deemed inoperable due to its location and size. It was determined her Cancer had entered Stage 3, and she was given a very aggressive chemotherapy treatment that ended in December. After this treatment, the tumor had shrunk and stopped spreading, meaning a second surgery might've been possible. However, given the nature of the chemotherapy, mom's chances of surviving said surgery were incredibly low. She eventually decided to just live the time she had left to its fullest.
2025 was a year of recovery for her. Doctors kept monitoring the tumor's progress, and things were looking a lot more hopeful, as there were no signs of the tumor spreading or growing back to where it was. During this time, Mom's new outlook on life made her reconsider her stance on an eventual surgery, and when, in January 2026, nodules started appearing around the tumor and a diagnosis of her Cancer returning quickly, she decided to get the surgery. Unfortunately, the tumor was still inoperable. It was located right against the Portal Vein, making it incredibly dangerous to cut out. With our options limited, the Doctor pushed for radiotherapy.
This is where things get complicated, though. ISSSTE rejected our request for radiotherapy due to over saturation of the main hospital that provides this service. We tried to request it again, but we're looking at a 6-month wait list, and we were directly told that they're very likely to reject it again.
With time against us, we approached a good private hospital, and we were given a positive outlook on where her treatment is heading. However, the price of this treatment is incredibly high, and being insured by ISSSTE, we do not have major medical cost insurance. As such, these expenses had to come out of pocket. In total, radiotherapy treatment, oral chemotherapy she'll have to take throughout the process, doctor fees, and general care, the full price will be 25k USD. The amount shown on this campaign is the equivalent in Mexican Peso. We are in a very niche situation where, due to Dad's incoming retirement, our income is very low for the next couple of months, until his retirement fund comes in later this year, making it impossible for us to cover the treatment until then. However, time isn't exactly on our side with mom's condition worsening as we speak.
Please know that this was our last resort for this, as we need to start her treatment as soon as possible, but this is happening right in a very small period of time when we're not able to cover the treatment properly. Know that any money that comes from this will go straight into mom's care. And if anyone would like their money back, I'm willing to pay you back the very second we're back in a more stable financial situation.
