I'd like to introduce you to my friends Joe (on the right), and the love of his life & care-partner, Duane. Joe and Duane met on June 28, 2008 which also happened to be Gay Pride Sunday. They were engaged on top of Koko Head in Hawaii, on January 17, 2017. Joe and Duane were united in marriage as life partners one year later, January 17, 2018 at San Francisco City Hall.
Do we really know, while standing face to face with our life partner, the depth and meaning of the words we repeat in earnest, "in sickness and in health" as we anticipate the bright and beautiful future ahead.
On December 15, 2019, Joe and Duane were told the news that no one should ever have to hear. Joe was diagnosed with glioblastoma multiforme, the most aggressive form of brain cancer. While Joe is responding to the current radiation treatment that is nearly complete, his cancer requires cutting edge treatment and possibly trial medications. We are thrilled that Joe's case has been accepted for review at City of Hope's comprehensive cancer treatment center located in Duarte, California. The first week of March, Duane will be renting a car and together they'll make the journey to City Of Hope to meet with the neurology team there. We believe that City of Hope is the best chance for Joe to receive successful treatment and the care he needs to get him back doing the things he loves to do.
The donations made here will ease the financial burden as Duane takes time away from his work as Joe's care partner. These donations will also help to cover some of the the costs associated with treatments that are not paid for by insurance as well as transportation, lodging, meals, and incidentals.
Joe & Duane appreciate the prayers, homemade meals, visits & love from all of their friends and loved ones. Special Thanks to Team Veritas, for Their Amazing Support!
