Hi, my name is Chadon Jacquelyne Abe. I’m 20 years old and from Abidjan, the capital of Cote d’Ivoire in West Africa. I’ve been accepted to Hollins University, a women’s college in Roanoke, Virginia.
I want to study communications and economics in the United States because I’ll have my best chance there to gain leadership skills that I need to bring home to Cote d’Ivoire. I love my country, which is rich in beauty, cocoa and coffee but poor in literacy and the chance for a good secondary education, let alone advanced education, for most of its young people.
I want to help my country overcome its problems of illiteracy and poor education. I have the energy and vision to do this, and I want to see the talent and optimism of Ivoirians go to work on the even bigger challenges that are facing the world.
Until I can go back to school, I’m working as a newspaper reporter covering West African business and economics news, and I’m tutoring high school students in English, history and geography.
Hollins is offering me $45,000 out of $60,000 for the annual tuition. I still need $19,000 to cover the rest of tuition, plus expenses like books, travel, health coverage.
I am asking for whatever you can offer to aid me in my journey to receiving an education in the U.S. Any contribution is deeply appreciated, and if you are not able to contribute, please consider sharing my story with your friends and family.
Thank you!
Chadon
