Meet – Ziggy.
As many of you already know, fostering dogs has become a very important and very big part of our lives down here in Houston. We have learned so much about ourselves throughout the process, and have fallen in love with more pups than we can count. We have loved and cared for the healthy and the sick, the seniors and the puppies, the chill and the anxious... but we have come across a case that has broken our hearts and we are humbly reaching out for help.
Ziggy came into our care on September 26th, and we have been smitten ever since (yes, even Stoney!). Ziggy is the sweetest snuggler around and has so much love to give, even though she’s had an incredibly rough start to life. While she was rescued as a stray and we don’t know the full backstory, we are almost certain she was hit by a car on the right side of her body and abandoned. Her back right hip is dislocated, she has multiple fractures in her pelvis, and her skin is a raw and itchy mess (hence the Capitals jersey protecting her while she heals). Ziggy was given two options by the vet based on her injuries – either amputate her leg, or perform a Femoral Head Ostectomy (FHO) surgery that allows her to keep her limb, alleviate the pain and potentially recover fully with the proper physical therapy.
With that being said, we decided to pursue the FHO surgery so she may have a chance at keeping her limb. As a two-year-old spunky pup with a lust for life and an entire future ahead of her, we believe we owe it to her to try and save her leg. Any amount helps with her surgery costs, and we (most importantly, Ziggy) can’t thank you enough for your love and support! Any funds raised in excess of surgery costs will be split and donated directly to Rescued Pets Movement and Houston BARC Foundation.
