My name is Shauna Spencer; I am seeking assistance for my four (4) year old niece, Gabrielle Gordon, who is very ill. She was diagnosed with “Multifocal Glioma” on her brain stem and is currently undergoing Proton Specific Radioactive treatment at the Cancer Unit in the Children’s Hospital, Washington DC.
Gabrielle’s father, a rank and file officer in the Jamaica Constabulary Force, and her mother, a Customs Officer, from Kingston Jamaica are unable to afford the high cost for ongoing treatment which their young daughter needs. They were able to fly her to the USA, but now require assistance for the ongoing treatment which she desperately needs.
Two weeks ago, Gabrielle’s mother noticed that her typically happy and playful four (4) year old was veering to the right when she walked, was unbalanced when standing, and her right arm and leg became paralyzed. A trip to the doctor two (2) days later and a subsequent MRI led to her hospitalization at the University Hospital of the West Indies (UHWI), Jamaica. The parents’ worst nightmare was realized. On February 4, 2019 Gabrielle was confirmed to have brain cancer. Two tumors are now attached to her brain stem and have significantly impaired her mobility.
February 7, 2019 saw, Gabrielle being admitted to the Children’s Hospital, Washington DC. She is currently undergoing treatment for “Multifocal Glioma” a particularly aggressive type of cancer. The cancer has restricted the free flow of fluids to and from the brain causing a buildup of pressure. A successful surgery was done on February 11th, where a shunt was inserted in her body, connecting her brain to her stomach as the brain stem that is responsible for this action no longer works.
Upon arrival at the hospital, Gabrielle was placed on life support as her lungs and heart were failing. It is now five (5) days later, and she has been removed from life support and continues to battle valiantly for life. She has an exceptionally strong will to live, help us to give her a fighting chance.
