My mom, Kimberly Rutherford Miller, is a mother to three, grandmother to three, a wife, and the most important woman in my life. She has inspired many people throughout her journey and battle with squamous cell carcinoma since July 2014. Not only has cancer taken a huge toll on her health and finances, but her family has also been effected emotionally, physically, and financially. From numerous surgeries, chemotherapy, radiation, multiple tumors, a triple blood infection, a liver aneurysm and months of staying in different hospitals, Kim still has hope and is continuing to fight for her life. She continues to stand strong, showing strength and courage and maintaining hope, and even after receiving many negative results and feedback throughout her battle with cancer, Kim has consistently fought to find alternatives and has tried many different emerging cancer treatments with hopeful outcomes. Her will to live has touched many around her, inciting within others a reason to fight for their lives as well.
Below, you can read the timeline of her battle with cancer which has been a constant progression of being told she would not make it versus she has been cured. At this point, she is seeking natural cures that are costly and out of pocket, coming to over $15,000 total. She has depleted her life savings to cure her illness, and at this point we are grateful for any prayers or additional financial help friends, family, and her community can offer.
In July 2014, Kim was diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma. On August 1, 2014, she underwent surgery to remove various tumors, part of her colon, and a complete hysterectomy followed by four rounds of chemo and 40 radiation treatments. At her one year checkup, in 2015, the doctors found another tumor in her abdomen, and she underwent surgery in October 2015 to remove it. However, in January 2016, six more tumors turned up in her abdomen. At this point, Kim ventured to MD Anderson in Texas for six rounds of chemo.
At a six month checkup in July 2016, the doctors told Kim that the six tumors had reduced to two nodules. At this appointment, her doctors also told her that she only had a year to live and that chemo would no longer be helpful in fighting her cancer.
Kim and Johnny decided at this point to cash in her life insurance policy. Kim spent over $200,000 in two months on a naturopath and ended up in the hospital with a triple blood infection due to dirty needles. Kim recovered from this infection and began “poor man’s chemo,” or an all-organic, non-gmo diet that included juicing and basically living a healthy lifestyle and avoiding carcinogens as much as possible. Kim has maintained this process of self-treatment and continues to add healthy detox methods to her home health process regularly.
However, after around four months of self-treatment, Kim finally went to a natural clinic in 2017 in Tempe, Arizona and underwent various treatments for four months. She had gotten very ill and was down to 96 pounds. Dr. Mary in California told Kim she didn’t have much time left, but referred her to a doctor in the Philippines. At this point, Kim and Johnny sold their home and left for the Philippines in April 2017, where they stayed for three weeks. Here, Kim underwent photodynamic therapy and began to feel better, regaining energy and the weight she had lost. Her doctor in the Philippines told her that her cancer was gone, yet she still had a tumor in her abdomen.
Soon after returning home, her abdominal tumor became inflamed and infected. Northside hospital treated her with antibiotics, but eventually she had to go to Emory where the doctors treated her with chemo once more. This time, the chemo created a massive hole in her intestines, muscle wall, and skin. For an entire month, Kim was unable to consume food, and she underwent a nine hour surgery to remove the tumor, part of her liver, and part of her muscle wall. Additionally, the doctors grafted skin from her legs to replace the dead skin on her abdomen. Kim was told by the surgeon that he was able to remove the tumor in hopes that it would be beneficial but no guarantee.
However, four months later, doctors found an abscess under her liver, and she underwent a hematoma and liver aneurism followed by four months of hospitalization. During this time, Kim started healing, gaining weight, and seeing a naturopath in Cumming, GA where she started vitamin C infusions.
Kim still has two tumors at this point. Because Kim’s illness has kept her from working a steady job and her life savings has gone towards treating a cancer that is essentially incurable with accepted methods in the US, Kim must spend money out of pocket for natural treatments and treatments that are still being tested. Additionally, her family has helped her with finances as much as possible but has done as much as they can do. Currently, she is living with my grandmother, her mother, in order to save money for treatments. She is in need of over $25,000 to go towards a natural cancer vaccine. These vaccines could be on the forefront of cancer treatments in the future. Our family is very grateful for any donations you can spare, as we need our mother and grandmother to live much longer and we are positive about the outcome of these vaccines. We believe in God whole heartedly to heal her but we know God works through people, So it’s up to us to help. Thank you all in advance. Thank you for saving my mom.
