Some of you know from my writing that racism kinda' ruined church for me .

But my story isn't that unique. So many people of color have left the Christian faith or had to radically rethink it after encountering white supremacy within its walls.

I want to tell and to amplify more of those stories, and I want you to be a part of making it happen.

I'm doing a live-action music video for "Playing Hookey" that will address police brutality, white supremacy, religion and  Black joy!

And the thing I most look forward to is hosting a brunch on set for people like me to share their stories. We're going to share those stories alongside the music video when it's ready.

Some of the strongest pillars supporting white supremacy are the stories we tell (or refuse to tell), and organized religion is one of the foremost institutions telling stories that shape the way people behave.

Will you join me in telling a better story?

The funds will pay a production company to produce the video and to promote it (a total cost of about $5,500). I've set the goal a tad higher because there is a chance that the cost may increase.

The trauma that I and so many other people carry from encountering white supremacy at church is one way we continue to "carry the boulder " of systemic racism on our psyches. But being able to bring these stories to light is so affirming and life-giving in a world that continues to gaslight us about our experiences.  And I'd be forever grateful to anyone who chooses to stand beside us to speaking our truth.
