Let's Keep Phil Rolling

It was an enjoyable Saturday night with friends and Alan Jackson was just about to come on stage at Oak Hollow Farm when I realized I had missed calls and texts from neighbors trying to let me know there was a white Ford truck on fire behind our house. I was relieved no humans or animals were hurt, but my heart still sank knowing I was gonna have to relay the awful news to Phil. I knew it was gonna be tough on him not because Phil is someone who worries much over material things, but because he has a HUGE heart and even something like his truck (which he fondly referred to as Betty White) would have major sentimental value. As unnerving as the situation was, he handled it in true Phil fashion by calling his Dad to bring him in the loop, then encouraging us all to get back to having a good night and enjoying the show despite the fact that he just was informed his truck burned up!!! After lots of messages from witnesses and us playing amateur fire investigators, we are pretty confident the fire was caused by lightning. Phil's truck AKA Betty White had been sitting with the engine OFF for several hours. There was a brief rainstorm with intense lightning that started just as we were headed to the concert. We were told there were two loud booms just before the truck was seen with 10-12 foot flames coming from the engine. We could not be more thankful for the Fairhope Volunteer Fire Department and Fairhope Police Department for responding promptly and staying on the scene until we were notified. Also, huge thank you to the mysterious retired firefighter who stopped and used our hose to start putting out the fire himself!!! The good news...it is just a truck and can be replaced. Nobody was hurt and it could have been much worse. The bad news...the truck had liability coverage only due to the age/value, which means ZERO $$$ from insurance. So with that being said, the purpose of this GoFundMe is to raise $$$ for Phil and help turn a crappy situation into a something beautiful!!! 2020 has been a heck of a ride for so many of us and if anybody deserves a little good energy sent their way it is one of my favorite people on the planet, Philip Schermer III. If you know Phil already, then I don't have to convince you of why. And if you haven't yet had the privilege of meeting him, then I'll leave you with just a few Phil facts: -Phil loves his family fiercely! And I totally get it because his mom & dad are Heaven sent so it only makes sense they raised such a genuine loving human. -Phil bravely served our country as a Marine and is a Purple Heart recipient. And he continues to serve by putting others before himself. -Phil is the definition of a good friend. The one that will drive clear across town (maybe a couple towns) to help you move because he has a truck/trailer. Betty White was good to us and she will be greatly missed! TOGETHER WE CAN DO MORE!!!
