Let's Help The Thomasson Family

Matt unexpectedly passed away Wednesday, April 17, leaving Reca and their boys in shock and disbelief that Matt is no longer with us. Matt and Reca raised Andrew and Joey to be giving, selfless and strong despite the health challenges they have endured a majority of their lives. Matt and Reca have shown us all regardless of what life throws at us, we do what needs done and continue forward with positivity, love, laughter and a smile

The Thomasson family has touched so many lives in the Lewis Clark Valley and beyond. Drew and Joey both receive treatment and care for Neurofibromatosis (NF brain tumors).  Reca shared a very heartfelt and touching letter during Matt's Celebration of Life on Tuesday 4/23.  The letter shared a lot of feeling and insight into "what it means to have chronically ill children".  Matt worked  hard to provide for his family and allow Reca to work part time as a teacher.  Reca has been able to attend all medical appointments for both boys over the past 14 years.  The level of care and expertise required to successfully treat this condition means that Reca makes regular trips out of town for appointments, it's not as simple as a few hours away from work each week. Neurofibormatosis will require ongoing monitoring,  appointments and treatment.  Matt sacrificed over and over so his beloved family would have everything they needed  to keep the boys safe and healthy.

Joey set up his own charity to help cancer patients feel love and comfort while fighting the battle.  Joey's Blankets of Courage, Strength and Hope makes personalized and custom made blankets for cancer patients. If you live in the LC Valley you've likely seen Joey volunteering at the NAIA world series or seen some of the beautiful blankets he's donated to local fundraising events.

Drew is blind and continues to make his way in this world.  He graduated from LHS a few years ago and has been working as an employee at our local college.  Drew is an independent and hardworking young man.

Reca is a hardworking teacher and to help ease some of the financial stress an account has been set up to help the Thomassons as they adjust to this new chapter in their lives. These funds will be for Reca to use with any future needs of the boys.
