As some of you may know and others who don’t, my sister was diagnosed with a brain tumor called an acoustic neuroma/vestibular shwannoma after experiencing some unilateral hearing loss and other symptoms.  The tumor is medium sized and since it is already touching the brain stem the doctors feel it needs to be removed immediately and radiation is not an option. On October 3rd, she will be having translabyrinthine surgery to remove the tumor.  We hope this will help alleviate her daily debilitating headaches, but she will lose all hearing she has left in her right ear along with unknown lifelong issues. 

Over the past several months she has incurred thousands of dollars in medical bills (after insurance) along with travel expenses to and from Northern Utah for treatment.  This has also resulted in lost income as both Laura and her husband have had to miss many days of work.  If that wasn’t enough, she was in a horrible car accident in July which has also caused a financial burden.  She will also continue to incur medical bills during treatment and recovery.
