Let's Help Manny's Family

If this request for contributions seems clumsy or is lacking in details, it probably is because when it comes to 21st century technology I'm still playing catch-up.  However, my friend has encountered a very rough patch in his life and, with your help, I would like to try to ease his burden just a little.

Manny Perez is a 26 year-old security guard employed at the same East Los Angeles mental health clinic as myself, a nurse.  He lives in a modest home with his parents (his mother has been disabled since age 21 due to a severe back injury and his father is a cancer survivor who's now battling dementia,)  and 2 his younger sisters.  He is the primary source of support.

In June, Manny was diagnosed with COVID 19 and although he has now pretty much recovered experienced severe symptoms and was primarily bed-bound for over 2 weeks.  At the same time that he had recovered to the extent that he could return to work following his illness and quarantine, the clinic where we are both employed has closed due to a COVID outbreak at the facility.

And if this wasn't bad enough, the home where he and his family live caught fire on the 4th of July as a result of illegal fireworks use in his neighborhood and the house sustained significant damage.  Because of this, his family have been forced to find other temporary accommodations and his landlord is demanding that the family's property be removed within 7 days or it will be discarded.  I asked if there were tenant-related issues or if there was past due rent prompting the owner's actions and he said that was not the case.  The family has lived in that home for 20 years and have been good wards of the property, even making minor improvements.  Manny told me that the landlord, who he describes as a "slumlord", has historically been an unsympathetic and difficult person to deal with.

Even though there are laws protecting him from issues with his landlord, it no doubt adds to a level of stress most would not wish upon their worst enemy.  I have tried to provide some moral support and encouragement and even contacted the local ABC news affiliate in hopes of generating some assistance for the family.  But now I am asking his friends, co-workers, and anyone else who may be in a position to help to do so.

I've set a goal of $5000 for no specific reason because any help whatsoever, regardless of the amount, would be most greatly appreciated.

Thank you ~
