Let's Help Gus Gus!

Meet Gus Gus. Rescued from Florida, he’s a fun-loving, gentle and spirited pup at heart. He’s also my best friend and has been greeting me at the door for the past nine years.

On May 11th, I received the devastating news that Gus was diagnosed with stage 3 Lymphoma and we now need your help. The prognosis was grim but fortunately, this form of cancer is treatable which means Gus can live much longer and maintain a good quality of life if treated quickly with multiple rounds of chemotherapy. Doctors are optimistic that Gus will live a long happy life if proper action is taken given Gus’s otherwise good health and the available treatment’s effectiveness to the form of lymphoma that Gus has. Gus is optimistic always.

Less than a week before, while drying Gus off after rain-soaked walk, I noticed he had two large lumps near his throat. Although Gus seemed normal in every way – good diet, high-energy, playful – I scheduled an appointment with the vet for later in the week. Fortunately, an appointment opened the next day and they got us in sooner. After a few tests, the results came back several days later and the good news came first, which was that he had no tick-born diseases, organs are functioning as they should – OK. Then, the diagnosis. Not even 24 hrs later, we are meeting with an oncologist for more tests and to discuss our options. Gus began chemo 3 days after his diagnosis.

Without treatment, he has only several weeks left with us. However, with a full chemotherapy program, Gus can have a chance for more than a year of rope-tugging, squirrel chasing, and healthy life. Chemotherapy is the only effective treatment and it comes at high cost. Knowing this adds to the heartbreak I feel while I struggle to help him fight through this. So I am asking you to please join us in that fight.

With your support, Gus will receive his remaining 5 chemotherapy sessions and he will continue living the life he is supposed to live. If there’s anything that can help, donations will secure his treatment which we desperately need.
