We are reaching out on behalf of our daughter, Erica Dierksen.
4 years ago the unthinkable happened, our then 39 year old daughter Erica lost her vision and is now totally blind. She contracted MRSA (an anti-biotic resistant staph infection) causing blood clots to form in her sinus cavity, blocking the blood flow to her optic nerves thus killing the nerves. Doctors have told us that there is no fix for this at this time or in the foreseeable future.
Erica is managing her new way of life with the help of her fiance, Missy. She is cooking, cleaning, crocheting, crafting and belly dancing. Now, she is ready to get back into the work force and we have found the tool that will help her achieve this. This tool is called MyEye2 by OrCam. The device will allow her to do tasks that are currently impossible for her to do. The MyEye2 takes photos and speaks into her ear, reporting what it sees. It will read currency, scan bar codes, read labels, read a book or menus, tell her colors, time and has facial recognition capabilities.
