Anyone who knows my Mom knows how kind and loving she is. Recently she has been through many, many trials that started by being diagnosed with breast cancer.
About 2 months ago when she was diagnosed, we were all so worried. The doctors were able to schedule surgery to remove the cancerous tumor quickly. At the same time, they reconstructed both breasts beautifully. After about a week of healing and antibiotic therapy, I noticed a spot that was a little concerning. So back to the doctor Mom went. Unfortunately, she had developed an infection that had spread all the way through her breast to her implant. As if she hadn't gone through enough with the first surgery...
Once everything was arranged, she was back in the OR to have the breast tissue and the implants removed. After that, Mom was sent home with a Wound Vac (which is as painful as it sounds). She stayed positive and optimistic though.
After 2 weeks with the Wound Vac, she was cleared with no more infection and the doctors went back in. The surgeons completed a DIEP Flap that took 11 and a half hours. The took skin and subcutaneous tissue from her belly and revascularized it to make breast tissue. She spent a long, horrible 6 days in the ICU, 2 days on a stepdown floor, and now she is home! She is healing amazingly and we are praying that that was the last surgery she will need!
Long story short, Mom has been put under general anesthesia 10 times since the diagnosis and she has been out of work for about 2 months now. She won't be able to go back for at least another month and the medical bills are already pouring in...
Mom is alive, God is good, and anything helps... Thank you!
