Let's help Aura keep dancing.

Aura is a young girl who was diagnosed with a very aggressive type of chest cancer at the age of eight.  It became all the more complicated to treat because of the location of the tumor.

It was terrible news, very shocking since Aura was very healthy previous to this happening.  She was and continues to be very active, very cheerful and has a passion for music, especially dance music, and she loves to dance.

Her treatment lasted almost two and one-half years, and it was very intense.  Between radiotherapy, chemotherapy, and her surgeries, she always managed to keep positive with a smile on her face.  She was cheerful to the point of lighting up any room she was in, radiating nothing but love for all the persons who were helping her.

A month after finishing the treatment, the doctors repeated their exams and noticed that cancer had returned and was not in remission and we were told that there was nothing else they could do.  I do not know what was harder to take, the news of the first diagnosis or that there was no hope and no chance of more surgeries or more treatment.  The most difficult thing for me was to see the look on my daughter's face, who had to again accept this new information.

We decided to travel to the USA for a second opinion.  We arrived at the Philadelphia hospital where they treated us very kindly.  They conducted all their examinations and confirmed the diagnosis that we had received from the other Doctors.  There was nothing more that could be done!  This time, however, I did not tell my daughter the news, wishing her to think that everything would be fine, but my heart was broken, and what I did at that time was to place everything in the Hands of God.  I gave my daughter's life to God and cried and prayed and asked Him to help us in whatever way possible.

I asked Him for strength to survive what was coming.  I think it is the most difficult decision a mother can make.  The Doctors decided to repeat a biopsy and we accepted their request, having little or no hope of a successful outcome.  After three days, we returned for the results.  As we were sitting in the Doctor's office waiting for the news, the Doctor almost ran into the room with the news that it was not CANCER.  I was stunned.  I could not move and the Doctor told me that the biopsy was negative.  I do not know what happened, medially no one can explain as to what happened, and when I was finally able to speak, I said.."yes, I know what happened..GOD HEALED MY DAUGHTER."

The Doctor told me that in over sixty years of experience between herself and her colleagues, there were only two cases that had been seen, where the diagnosis was absolutely devastating, and yet the results were total health.  We stayed several more months in that city to keep everything under control, and to this day all test results are more than encouraging.

Our joy was immense but we also had to begin to deal with all the effects and consequences of the treatment especially of the radiotherapy, since it affected her lungs, especially her right lung.  As well, because of the surgeries, two of Aura's ribs were removed, and as a result, her spine has been affected.  Despite all of this, Aura continues to shine and now she receives dance classes, practices swimming, and yoga, which helps her a lot to exercise her spine and lungs.  Her main passion, in fact, her huge passion, however, is DANCE.

Now I have to take her at least once a year to the USA for control tests and because of the medical infrastructure, are much more complete than having the tests done here in Costa Rica.  The medical recommendations, with these visits, allow Aura to be seen by all the specialists involved, like oncology, orthopedics, and pulmonology, among many others.

Today, thank God and so many others who have helped, Aura is in remission and leads as normal a life as possible.  Her grades are very good, she teaches her classmates different choreographies for presentations at school.  She plays sports and is an exemplary young lady and very mature for her age.

This is why I am respectfully asking for your help because I want to see her like this always.  She has several more appointments in December, which are very important since last year we couldn't take her to USA.

As a single mother, I find it quite difficult to cover all the expenses every time we have to travel to the USA.  I as well would like to ask you another favor.  If you would be so kind as to keep not only us in your prayers, but all the children who are suffering from cancer or from any other disease or problem.  The world needs more love and kindness, and we have been blessed in so many ways.

Thank you for your anticipated support.  Aura and I are indeed totally honored to be able to call you our friend.

Sincerely,
