This is Alana Perrier and her family- Shawn Sabbe and their 9 year old son. Alana was diagnosed with stage 4 uterine Cancer last
December. She had been through 18 weeks of Chemo 6 weeks of radiation and thought the cancer had been retreating. Then one day she sat down and felt a sharp pain in her head and told her Dr. That weekend she was rushed to the hospital where they had found 3 tumors in her brain. Alana's cancer is terminal and the Dr's gave her 6-12 months to live. These last few day she wasn't feeling well so she went into
Thunder Bay Regional Hospital. The Dr's had found that the cancer had spread to her pancreas and liver. Shawn is an old school friend of
mine and we reconnected on Facebook a few weeks back. It was just a few days ago when I learned of her cancer. They have a 9 year old
little boy who understands that mommy is sick and that nobody can fix her. What he does NOT know is the harsh reality that mommy's
sickness is terminal.
Shawn has been off work for several months and has been trying to just survive, be a dad, be strong for his wife, somehow pay the bills and
keep a roof over his families head. However, several weeks ago he was denied his insurance claim for stress leave and had to reapply for
Compassion Leave. He is still waiting to see if it will be approved and even it is it will only cover 526/week . In the mean time, he has not
been able to pay his rent, the gas and utilities could get shut off at any time due to missed payments and the stress is piling up on Shawn.
Shawn is an amazing individual and has a heart of gold and would do anything to help out any one in their time of need. So I'm asking at this
vulnerable time in their life that to rally behind this family for their son. When someone you love is dying the only thing you should be
worrying about is how you can spend every second you have with them. Not fighting with insurance companies, fend off bill collectors or try to figure out how to pay the rent.
I wanted to start this gofundme page for Shawn and his family because it has been weighing heavy on my heart that their son will soon lose
their mother to stage 4 Terminal Cancer. It made me think about my daughter Vienna and how it would hurt my heart to know that I would
be leaving her soon. I left my daughter for almost a week to go back to Thunder Bay to see my dad. She cried and was so sad that I wasn't
there to tuck her in, sing her songs, get her ready for school or cuddle with her every night. But, I got to come home, I get to see her grow up,
make friends, see her graduate, fall in love and one day get married and have her own family.
Cancer has robbed that from Alana. So please give. Every penny every prayer counts. Shawn is born and raised in Thunder Bay and I know
that this community can rally together to takes care if their own. I have personally experienced it.
