Update from Bethany:
Hello all, thank you for your generosity to help provide funding for my dad, Jim Cook, to fly home from Honduras. As he indicates below, it's been a crazy journey. We are happy to announce that he is finally home! Thank you to each and every one of you that helped contribute to the transportation to get him to the United States as quickly as possible. Donations will go to cover his travel expenses of having to hire a private car and charter plane for part of the leg of his journey. This ended up costing less than originally expected so any additional donations over the amount needed to cover his emergency trip, as we previous indicated, will be sent to Heart4Children, the nonprofit that Jim Cook is the founder of. I will be issuing the funds directly to Jim Cook through check or through direct deposit/Venmo, whichever he prefers. Again, thank you all for your incredible generosity to help us get my dad home!

From Jim Cook:
As many of you know through my social media videos, I am currently working to get out of Honduras using a medical evacuation plane. This plane will also be able to take 13 of the 22 volunteers from Chickasaw Life Church who were serving at our orphanage and school back with me. We are hopeful that this flight will get approved by all parties for me and others to be able to depart tomorrow. However, it is quite a substantial cost of just under $53,000 for the plane to be sent to pick me up and take us home. I'm not one to ask for help often but know this is critical. Anything you can contribution is greatly appreciated. All donations over the goal will be sent to Heart4Children to help sustain the organization until our annual fundraiser can be rescheduled for the fall.
For those of you who aren't aware of my situation, here's a brief summary:
I left the United States in February to help lead a couple trips with Heart4Children in Honduras with the intent of staying about a month. This departure was before the COVID-19 virus had escalated globally. Unfortunately, the virus made its way to Honduras, and this past week the government decided to shut all of the borders with only a couple hours notice. This was not enough time for me to travel to the airport in order to catch a plane back to Houston. This quickly became a serious situation as I'm a double lung transplant and not only am extremely susceptible to this virus but also rely upon life sustaining transplant medications which cannot be obtained in Honduras. Over the last several days, we have been working to find a solution asap. We looked into shipping medication to me, but this was unfortunately not approved. However, the scheduling of a medical evacuation plane looks likely to be authorized by all parties. If all continues the way we expect, I should be able to get on a plane tomorrow for the states.
