Let's Get Brenton to Ecuador!

Hi All!

Amy Shutt here.  I am a professional wildlife photographer, mentor, and guide in Louisiana.  I am also the Director of the 501c3 nonprofit The Canid Project.

Last summer I was asked to speak to some teenagers about my journey to a career in photography at the LSU CLAW program in Baton Rouge, LA.  This Career, Leadership And Wellness program is  free to teenagers 14 to 18 year old students and aims to promote nutritional, physical, and professional career wellness.

This is where I first met Brenton Sianjina. At the time he was a 17 year old and about to start his senior year in high school. Brent asked the most questions that day and he did seem quite interested in photography as a career.

A couple of months later he contacted me to ask if I had any tips for someone wanting to get started in photography.  At the time he was very interested in shooting plants and flowers, so I invited him to a field trip I was having the next day.  That next day I showed him in ten minutes how to use my camera and macro lens. He took some wonderful photographs and I think he was hooked.

Soon, I helped him pick out a camera, which he bought.  Another student and I donated a macro lens and a telephoto lens to him and since that day a year ago he has been unstoppable.  He has shown great promise over this year and I feel strongly that he has found his passion.

Wanting to support him in any way I could I immediately thought of him when Karine Aigner, a colleague of mine,  mentioned that a scholarship was still available for her Kids Conservation Photo Workshops trip to Ecuador.

A little about this amazing Teen Conservation Photography Workshop can be found HERE

This new organization is run by wildlife conservation photographers Karine Aigner and Lucas Bustamante.  Their goal is " to get our students on the ground with real people and real issues and introduce to them the ways they can effectively portray and relay what they are seeing. By immersing ourselves in new cultures and new environments, we get personal and meaningful experiences with our subjects. We want our students to connect with their natural environment, the creatures and humans that use it, and to learn to tell the stories they find there".

I contacted Brent and told him about the opportunity and he immediately applied.

Brent got the scholarship and we are all so very proud of him and this next step on his career path with photography!  He leaves on August 5th for the workshop!

But, we still need about $1800 for the expenses that aren't covered by the scholarship.   Please see the list below:

Airfare $790
Hotel on arrival day and city tour: $300
Travel insurance: $123
Tips, Snacks, Wifi: $300
Yellow Fever vaccination: $280

Let's help get Brenton to Ecuador!  Any amount helps.
We thank you from the bottom of hearts! :)

In Brent's words:

Hi, everyone!

My name is Brenton Sianjina, I will be a freshmen at Baton Rouge Community College this coming fall.  I’m majoring in Business with a concentration in entrepreneurship. Business is my major because I plan on being a freelance photographer and need the skills to support doing what I love (Photography) in the real world.

I recently have earned the opportunity to attend a conservation photography workshop in Ecuador with two amazing photographers as leaders! I am eager to learn from them and from the other teenagers who will be attending as well.  This is a once in a lifetime opportunity and all support will be deeply appreciated.

Thank you for helping me live my dream and jumpstart my career!

Brenton
