Let's get Alexia walking again !
Donation protected
We never heard the word "spinal stroke " before March 2018. That is when my then 20 year old niece Alexia fell over in pain. We took her to ER as she was left basically paralyzed from neck down. They quickly transferred her to the ICU unit at Rush. Numerous tests later , it was confirmed she had suffered a spinal stroke. No idea why, no idea if she would be able to walk unassisted or have full range of motion in her hands.
She was sent to Shirley Ryan ability lab where she worked so hard to walk out of there on her own a month later.
She learned a whole new way of living. Never really complained, had the best attitude for what her new life was full of procedures , infections and pain.
Fast forward to Sept 30th, she was driving home from school when she felt a sharp pain on left side. By the time she drove home , left side was completely numb again. She has spent the last 5 days at Edwards Hospital and once again no idea why.
My sister Karen just finished paying off the last of the medical Bills 2 months. Even with insurance, the numerous outpatient procedures , out of pocket copays. They still had a lot Bill's to take care of . They have never asked for any help the 1st time. The main concern now is to spend as much time with her at the rehab facility, while still taking care of her younger 2 sisters.
All proceeds would go to the numerous medical Bills coming their way , as well as to help with the costs of driving, meals , lodging and missed work. A 10 ticket train pass alone is $75
No 21 year old should have to go through this. She is learning how to walk again and use her left hand.
She had to take another medical absence from school.
Any amount helps. If you are not able to donate , please share and pray
