Let's Cover Matt's Dental Emergency!

Matthew Sitman is a great writer and a great friend. He's written for NCR, Dissent, Jacobin, and Commonweal, where he's also an editor. If you know Matt, you know he's intelligent, thoughtful, and compassionate. (And if you don't know him, here's a chance to get to know a really neat guy.)
Unfortunately, Matt's in a pretty tough situation. He found out today that he has a cracked molar that is not salvageable. This means that the tooth can't be repaired with a filling or crown. Instead, Matt's doctor will have to extract the tooth, and replace it with a dental implant — a replacement tooth placed atop a screw that is inserted into the jaw bone.
On top of being pretty painful, the procedure is also very expensive. All told, Matt can expect to spend over $3,000 on the extraction, implant surgery and implant itself. Since Matt doesn't have insurance, he's responsible for all of those costs out of pocket.
Dental emergencies like Matt's get worse the longer you wait to treat them. So let's help Matt pull together the funds to cover the care he needs. He would do it for any of us!
Thanks guys,
Liz Bruenig
