Greetings human family,
my name is Morgan and it is with both sadness and great honor that I write to you in request for assistance of my sweet sister-friend Leila Mirhaydari. 10 years ago at the age of 27 Leila was diagnosed with end stage renal failure with unknown cause. She was towards the end of her college career at Washington State when the illness struck. She went from being a full time student to a full time patient, overnight. She endured countless hospital visits, medications, infusions, lab draws, appointments, not to mention just feeling downright crummy ALL THE TIME with kidney function that could not even sustain life without the implementation of dialysis.
Leila lived on dialysis for three years while waiting on the transplant list, a harrowing experience, wondering how long you will live like this, if you will ever meet your match. Leila was blessed by a distant family member who made her match and was willing to donate his kidney.
Since then Leila has been blessed with 7 years of freedom from dialysis. She went on to live in Hawaii, travel to Thailand and Bali, becoming yoga certified. She has given back to her Renal Failure and Dialysis community with beautiful posts and podcasts, discussing the seemingly endless struggles of kidney disease and ways of healthy coping and wholesome living. She dreams daily of ways to give back to this community given the good fortune she has received.
In the last few months Leila’s transplant kidney has declined and is now only functioning at 20%. She is required to take additional medications and increased dosing all of which cost multiple-hundreds of dollars monthly. She is also unable to work due to the illness as well as the restrictions enforced by Medicare and Medicaid.
While Leila transitions back to the transplant list with increasing medical expenses, I am requesting donations of any feasible amount to help her get through this time without surmounting debt. Leila is one of my oldest and dearest friends. She has always been an extremely caring, giving and virtuous soul. The strength and resilience she has gained through these challenging life circumstances is inspiring. The grace and compassion she has grown into is infinitely more moving while her determination to give back to her medical community shows what beauty may exist within this struggle. Please consider donating any amount that feels meaningful. And certainly, keep Leila and her family close in your hearts and prayers this new year. Blessings and thanks.
